Opportunities to Volunteer

Eligibility
Any person who has made written application on one of Special Olympics Virginia’s Volunteer Registration Forms and has been screened and accepted as a volunteer by an authorized individual is eligible to volunteer. All applicants will be considered for volunteer opportunities regardless of race, religion, gender or national origin.

Volunteers must agree to the Special Olympics Volunteer Code of Conduct and/or the Coach Code of Conduct.

SPORTS TRAINING
  • Coach or help coach any of the nine sports we offer training in. Most head coaches are in place. There is a minimum of 8 training sessions for each sport, sometimes more.
  • Help/be a buddy on a regular basis with any of the nine sports we offer training in.
  • We need helpers for athletes with all levels of athletic skill.
  • Help with special sports events (e.g. local tournaments)
    Plan and/or assist with end of season social for any of the nine sports we offer training in.
  • Chaperone athletes and/or help with transportation to regional and state competitions.

Public Relations and Promotion (including such tasks as advertising Area 3 events in “free” print media columns, contacting TV and radio stations for coverage of Area 3 events, keeping brochures updated, developing and posting PSAs, etc.)

Athlete Recruitment, Coordination, and Outreach (including planning and/or assisting in a social)

Volunteer Recruitment, Coordination, and Outreach (including planning and/or assisting in a social)

Family Involvement and Outreach (including planning and/or assisting in a social)

Fund Raising (including the Pepsi 10K, Fashion Square promotions, etc.)
